The Norfolk Chronicle of the 10th July 1875 reports on several recent cases brought before the Magistrates at East Harling. This includes the case of farmer John Green of Great Ellingham.
Police-constable Masters charged Green with allowing two cows and a mare to stray on the highway. This happened on the 12th June 1875 at Great Ellingham.
The Magistrates found John Green guilty. He was fined 6d with 6s costs.
John Green
In the 1860s, John Green was the landlord of the Currier’s Arms in Great Ellingham. 1866 had been a particularly difficult year for Green. In the October, a fire engulfed his barn with several sacks of corn.
In the November of 1866, Green was disqualified from holding a beer licence because of a conviction under the Criminal Justice Act in the March.
John Green died at the age of 58 in June 1876.
